Joseph Rutherford and Burlesque
by Amazing inno one really expects 'perfection' of their fellow humans, even of those in high station.
our past president, bill clinton certainly demonstrated that men in high station can and do give into acts that are not accepted by the public at large.
likewise, i doubt anyone expects that joseph rutherford would be perfect, but we would expect that as a human, he had his ways.. what about "true" spiritual leaders?

Memorial to cease?
by Aroq ini heard something about the memorial to cease soon.
not anything to do with jesus returning but rather that the number of folks partaking is increasing and the gb can't explain it since it should be decreasing or staying the same.. has anyone heard of this?

There is a post where it was mentioned that a CO said it could be the last memorial because the end is so close. There are ones who are claiming the end is so close and they are aluding to it happening this year. Yea right! I really doubt they would do away with the Memorial because their belief is that they are suppose to do this as commanded but stranger things have happened.

In Death lies Glory
by BluePill2 ini was alone at the new branch construction site in ticuantepe (nicaragua).
everybody had taken off for a weekend assembly in the capital and it was my turn to have watchman duty and guard the site.
we had dogs and i only had to walk around the perimeters and check all the gates and entrances.. suddenly a young boy appeared at the main gate, breathless and visibly nervous.

by BluePill2 inbefore i dive into the actual write-up of this experience, let me put some things straight.. i have thought long and hard if i should write more about my experiences during the 10+ years at different branches.
during these years i worked from financial department, service department, home office and different it assignments.
as you can imagine one sees and hears and reads a lot of stuff going through different stations in different countries.

There was only one time I can recall and it was seldom worked territory back in 1986. We lived in Texas so we went to the hill country and worked ranches. It was driving territory so you could not walk it. There was a nice little group and that day we did have fun and enjoy setting.

Being a JW Used to Be Fun :-)
by snowbird inwe found some people who were happy to welcome us into their homes, even offering us food and drink.. sometimes, they would flag us down and ask for the magazines, walk miles to the kh meetings, come to our defense if someone got ugly or rude.. now, jw's are either routinely ignored or outright vilified.. no one respects them anymore.. sad.. .

We lived in Texas the first few years I was a JW and I remember a lot of fun times. We had people over for dinner at least once a week or went to someone elses house. We did a lot of fun activities. Then in 1988 we moved to Delaware and everything changed. People did not have each other over like they did in the south. There were periods of fun times the first few years but after that it all went down hill and so did my health. Out of 30 years I was in there were maybe 4 good years and that was it. I am so thankful I am out because my husband and I are enjoying our life and having fun again!!

Troll Accusations
by Frazzled UBM ini have noticed that some of us are a bit too eager to label new posters as trolls.
while it is clear that there are some posters who just like to stir up trouble or are out and out apologists there are others who are witnesses starting to have genuine doubts and so ask questions but then when they see the responses the cognitive dissonance kicks in and they push back and argue with what they are being told.
this can lead to very negative reactions from jwn members and accusations that the person is a troll.

I agree Frazzled, and that is why I never call someone a Troll. You will be able to see it as time goes on and you are right many come on here and they are still going to meetings and are just starting to wake up. If we are cruel to them it can send them right back into the cult. We can become as bad as the WTS if we aren't careful.

When a JW's life comes close to its end...
by suavojr intalking with a long time elder last night, was very revealing.
he has been a jw for over 60 years, a man that was incarcerated in cuba in his early 20s and faced great loss and suffering over his beliefs and for being born in a communist country.
this brave man is now brittle and low-spirited.. while nightfalls on his life, he is made aware the end is near.

My parents have never been JW's but are Christians and both went to college and invested and saved. They are in their late 70's and very happy and have enjoyed their life traveling to many parts of the world. My mother in law on the other had grew up as a JW and she is in her mid 80's. She is so depressed because the end is not here and she is very difficult to be around. She was around when they gave many of these dates and was told not to get married and have children.
It breaks my heart that so many of them are getting old and their expectation of the end is not here. They lived most if not all of their life thinking they would never die. Rutherford sure did sell them a bill of goods!!

Who Ever Votes No In The Kingdom Hall?
by metatron inhow many of you have ever observed no votes in kingdom halls?
especially for spending on stuff?.
i've actually seen a few close votes but i is my experience unusual?
-
Aunt Fancy
If you don't count the voting done on the color choices for the KH and those types of votes, I only once saw a situation where a sister voted against the rest of the congregation. She was a very vocal sister and didn't take crap off of anyone.

The dumest thing an elder ever said to me..
by new hope and happiness inconversation with an elder...i said " did you watch due south yesterday" and he said " ive got far more important things to do".
i mean that comment of his got me to thinking and wondering, and made me see he was missing out on living..and i think that comment was the straw that broke this boys faith, and started my i dont want to be a witness anymore.
kind of wierd how a simple question opened my eyes.. and now as i write this i am watching " the rebel" a 1950s western series, and its great and its even better my 9 year old is watching with me..and there is nothing more important than being happy.. .

The last Sunday meeting my husband went to the COBE was giving the talk and he said "Jehovah doesn't mess around"! He is one of those old guys who is a stickler and he loves to beat up the congregation. My husband came home and was disgusted with how he handled the talk.
